The Curragh Racecourse with their sponsor Al Basti Equiworld, Dubai will honour the late Kevin Prendergast by running the International Stakes next Saturday in memory of the legendary trainer. The Group 3 contest takes place this Saturday, the second day of the Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby Festival and will be titled “The Al Basti Equiworld, Dubai International Stakes in honour of Kevin Prendergast”.

The Curragh based trainer won the race twice with Mustameet in 2006 and Decado in 2007

Kevin trained on the Curragh for over sixty years and was associated with many famous winners here including eight Irish Classic winners including Pidget and Arctique Royale in the Irish 1000 Guineas, Northern Treasure and Awtaad in the Irish 2000 Guineas and Oscar Schindler (twice), Conor Pass and Pidget in the Irish St Leger.  Other notable Group 1 successes at the Curragh included Rebelline in the Tattersalls Gold Cup, Kingsfort in the National Stakes, La Collina in the Phoenix Stakes and Termagant and Miss Beatrix in the Moyglare Stud Stakes.
