Creativity Takes Centre Stage at The Curragh This Autumn for Goffs Million Raceday at the Curragh
The Curragh Racecourse is delighted to announce the return of its much‑loved Autumn creative celebrations, showcasing the artistic and photographic talent inspired by Ireland’s home of flat racing. Building on the success of previous year’s, The Curragh will once again host two standout creative initiatives: the 2026 Photography Competition – “Beyond the Finish Line”, in partnership with Bermingham Cameras, and the 2026–2027 “Artist of the Curragh” competition.
Both competitions will culminate in a special celebration of Creativity at The Curragh on Goffs Million Raceday, Saturday 26th September, where this year’s winners will be revealed.
Beyond the Finish Line – 2026 Photography Competition
In partnership with Bermingham Cameras
This year’s photography competition invites amateur photographers to capture the unique emotional landscape of Irish racing, the quiet moments of connection, the intensity of training, and the deep bond between horse and human that defines life at The Curragh. The competition will again by judged this year by Brian Whelan owner of Bermingham Cameras.

- Overall winner: Canon Pixma G4511 Printer valued at €300
- Two runners‑up: Canon Selphy QX10 Printer valued at €170 each

Last year’s competition saw exceptional creativity, with local amateur photographer Paul Dempsey crowned winner for his striking photograph of Big Gossey, a moment that beautifully captured the power and personality of the racehorse.
Brian Whelan commented ahead of the competition: “The Curragh is a place where emotion and energy collide. It’s impossible not to be inspired. I’m thrilled to see this competition return and can’t wait to witness how others interpret racing life through their lens this year.”
Artist of the Curragh – 2026–2027 Art Competition
Artists from across County Kildare are invited to submit a sample artwork and a short statement (max 100 words) explaining why they should be selected as one of five finalists. These finalists will be welcomed to The Curragh on Goffs Million Raceday to paint a live race‑day scene.

- An image of a sample artwork
- A short statement (max 100 words) on why you should be selected
The winning artist will receive a €1,500 commission from The Curragh plus their artwork will be displayed at the racecourse. Last year’s winner, Isabelle Smith, impressed with her vibrant, colourful depiction of The Curragh, a piece that captured both the movement and magic of race day.
