Robbie Dolan, one of horse racing’s most celebrated jockeys and the winner, in 2024 aboard the 90-1 outsider, Knights Choice, of the prestigious Group 1 Lexus Melbourne Cup, is set to return to Ireland for a special visit to the iconic Curragh Racecourse, reconnecting with his Kildare upbringing and sharing his remarkable journey from local tracks to international stardom.
Born and raised in County Kildare, Robbie Dolan’s passion for horse racing was ignited in the heartland of Irish racing when, whilst mulling the possibility of an office job, a teacher suggested he consider the Racing Academy and Centre of Excellence (RACE) in Kildare Town. His early years around the lush green landscapes of the Curragh, steeped in centuries of equestrian tradition, shaped a career that would take him all the way to Australia’s most coveted racing prize — the Lexus Melbourne Cup.
Robbie’s crowning achievement came when he clinched victory in the Melbourne Cup, Australia’s most iconic and famous race, securing his place among the elite in international horse racing. His success abroad is a testament to his dedication, skill, and deep connection to the sport’s heritage that began right here in Ireland.
Dolan’s return to The Curragh is a full-circle moment, allowing him to reconnect with his roots and share his remarkable journey with the Irish racing community. His story serves as an inspiration to aspiring jockeys and a reminder of the enduring legacy of Irish horsemanship.
