Romanised to be honoured at The Curragh

14/01/2021

The Curragh is delighted to announce that Robert Ng has agreed to sponsor the Minstrel Stakes to acknowledge the magnificent racing career of Romanised. The Hong Kong based owner, whose colours were carried to Classic and Group 1 success by the Ken Condon trained son of Holy Roman Emperor, has agreed to sponsor the Romanised Minstrel Stakes for the next three years. The Group 2 contest is scheduled to be run on Sunday 18th July this year.

A winner as a 2, 3, 4 and 5 years old, the son of Holy Roman Emperor, who was prepared for all his races on the Curragh Training Grounds, claimed some of his greatest racing achievements on the famous Curragh track having won the 2018 Tattersalls Irish 2000 Guineas and then with back to back victories in the Minstrel Stakes in 2019 and 2020.

He recently commenced his stallion career at Haras de Bouquetot in France and it will be exciting when his first foals are born in 2022

Robert Ng commented,

“It gives me great pleasure to sponsor the Minstrel Stakes as The Curragh has been a lucky race-course for me.    It was very exciting to watch Romanised quicken like he did to win the 2019 and 2020 renewals of the Group 2 Minstrel Stakes at The Curragh.    These successes also reminded me of the burst of acceleration Romanised showed when he won the Tattersalls Irish 2000 Guineas in 2018.    I hope we will see more excellent performances in the future renewals of the Romanised Minstrel Stakes.”

Trainer Ken Condon said,

“It’s very appropriate that Mr Robert Ng, has chosen The Curragh to enhance his support of Irish Racing and particularly the Minstrel Stakes by sponsoring it in Romanised’s name for a 3 year term. Appropriate because he was trained on the Curragh for his career and provided all of us lucky enough to be connected with him, our greatest day in racing by winning the 2018 2000 Guineas at headquarters. Appropriate also that his name is attached to the Minstrel Stakes, a race he won on 2 occasions on a racecourse he excelled on.”

Evan Arkwright, Racing and Sponsorship Manager, The Curragh, commented

“We are delighted to be able to honour such a high profile Curragh trained and raced Classic winner and we are most grateful to Mr Ng for agreeing to sponsor this prestigious Group 2 race, which will be the ideal platform to not only celebrate the high points of the racing career of Romanised at The Curragh, but also to promote his new career as a stallion to Thoroughbred breeders”

Other former winners of the race, which was first run in 1988 , include Go and Go and Gordon Lord Byron.
