Luxembourg confirmed for Curragh feature this Saturday
Declared runners for Day 1 of the William Hill Autumn Festival taking place at the Curragh this weekend was published earlier today with six two year olds going to post for the featured Alan Smurfit Memorial Beresford Stakes.
First run in 1857, the Group 2 contest has an impressive roll of honour of previous winners including Sea The Stars, Saxon Warrior, St Nicholas Abbey, Azamour, Sadler’s Wells and the legendary Nijinsky in 1969.
Trainer Aidan O’Brien will attempt to win the race for an unprecedented 21st time with impressive Killarney Maiden winner Luxembourg. His son Donnacha will to be represented by Piz Badile, while Joseph O’Brien has Galway maiden winner Swan Bay. Other runners are the Jim Bolger trained Manu Et Corde, Tuwaiq trained by Ger Lyons and the Johnny Murtagh trained Chicago Soldier who will carry the colours of Tony Smurfit.
The William Hill Ireland Renaissance Stakes has attracted nine runners including Art Power trained in Britain by Tim Easterby. Home trained contenders for the Group 3 sprint include Measure of Magic, Speak in Colours, Power Under Me and Twilight Spinner.
There are 12 runners in the William Hill Ireland Lengthen Your Odds Maiden, 15 in the GAIN The Advantage Series Nursery, 19 in the William Hill Pick Your Places Handicap, 19 in the Bord Na Mona Recycling Apprentice Handicap, 15 in the Irish EBF Maiden over 1 mile and 10 in the opening Irish EBF Auction Series Race.
