Leading juveniles target Curragh this Saturday
Some of the leading two-year-olds in training will look to confirm their reputations at The Curragh this Saturday, following the latest entry stage which was published this morning.
Point Lonsdale will attempt to give trainer Aidan O’Brien his fourteenth success in the Galileo EBF Futurity Stakes . Unbeaten in his three starts, the son of Australia features among four of the nine entries trained by O’Brien for the Group 2 contest over 7 furlongs, together with Howth, The Acropolis and The Entertainer.
Other notable contenders include the Joseph O’Brien trained quartet of Maritime Wings, Buckaroo, Point Gellibrand and Hadman, while Jim Bolger, who landed the race with Mac Swiney last year, will be represented by Leopardstown winner Manu Et Corde. The winner of the race will receive a free entry to the Goffs Vincent O’Brien National Stakes.
The unbeaten Velocidad, trained by Joseph O’Brien, is one of eleven fillies in the Alpha Centauri Debutante Stakes. His father Aidan, who has won the race twelve times most recently with Magical in 2017, has entered Concert Hall, Prettiest and recent Galway winner Twinkle. The Jessica Harrington trained Discoveries will represent the Niarchos Family, who will sponsor the Group 2 contest for the first time this year. Their colours were carried to success in 2019 by Alpine Star.
Johnny Murtagh will bid to win the race for the first time as a trainer having won three times as a jockey, with recent winners Mise Le Meas and Hapipi Go Lucky. Dermot Weld, who landed the race with Campfire Glow in 2007, is expected to saddle Radiyka, while trainer Gavin Cromwell will be represented by Sunset Shiraz. The winner of the race will receive a free entry to the Moyglare Stud Stakes
There are a large number of entries for the supporting races with 26 in the TRI Equestrian Handicap, 32 in the the Curragh supporting Relay For Life, 20 in the Coolmore Arizona Maiden, 31 in the DMG Media EBF Maiden and 25 in the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Maiden and 22 in the Irish EBF Supporting Champions Weekend.
