Irish Emerald Stud have agreed to sponsor a race at the Curragh for the first time. The Royal Lytham at Irish Emerald Stud Maiden will take place on 21st March, day 1 of the 2021 Irish Flat racing season.
The sponsorship of the race will be an important part of launching and marketing the stallion career of Royal Lytham. The former Aidan O’Brien trained son of Gleneagles was a high class two-year-old, having broken his maiden at Navan, he won the Group 2 July Stakes at Newmarket before finishing a very close third behind Siskin and Monarch of Egypt in the Group 1 Keeneland Phoenix Stakes.
Irish Emerald Stud will also present a free nomination to Royal Lytham to the breeder of the winning horse.
Evan Arkwright, Racing and Sponsorship Manager, The Curragh commented,
“Royal Lytham has huge potential to be a very successful stallion and we are delighted that Gary and his team at Irish Emerald Stud have agreed to include the Curragh to help launch his breeding career.”
Gary Duffy, owner of Irish Emerald Stud said,“ Firstly I am honoured to be sponsoring a race on the opening weekend of Irish flat racing at Ireland’s premier track, I’ve been to the Curragh on a few occasions since their redevelopment and the facilities are second to none, Royal Lytham was an unlucky third in his final race of his two year old campaign in the Keeneland Phoenix Stakes Group 1, Royal Lytham was a top class race horse and to honour his brilliance I felt it only right to do such that at Ireland’s best race track."
