Paddy Power Irish Lincolnshire features on opening day of Curragh season
24 runners will line up in the competitive €90,000 contest this Sunday
The Curragh stages the opening day of the 2021 Flat Racing Season this Sunday 21st March.
Teed Up (Billy Lee) is one of 24 runners in the Paddy Power Irish Lincolnshire and the Ken Condon trained performer is likely to start favourite for the €90,000 contest.
Adrian McGuinness will be represented by Godhead (Ronan Whelan) and Casanova (Gary Ryan). The County Dublin based trainer won the race with Bowerman in 2020. Other notable runners include Laughifwant (Sam Ewing), winner of the Paddy Power Irish Cambridgeshire in 2020, the Ger Lyons trained Maker of Kings, Quizical (Leigh Roche) trained by Sheila Lavery, Layfayette (Chris Hayes) trained by Noel Meade and Mirann (Ben Coen) trained by Johnny Murtagh.
The historic Madrid Handicap, first run in 1813, has attracted 11 runners including the Aidan O’Brien trained Duke of Mantua (Ryan Moore) and recent Dundalk winner Shackleton Hero trained by Joseph O’Brien, while Downforce (Billy Lee) and Fleming Moon (Robbie Colgan) are among the 12 runners for the Paddy Power “From the Horse’s Mouth” Handicap.
A field of 9 two-year-olds will line up in the opening Irish Stallion Farms EBF Maiden including the Donnacha O’Brien trained Silver Surfer (Gary Ryan), who will be a first runner for his sire Caravaggio, while his father Aidan will be represented by Cadamosto, the mount of Ryan Moore.
Giuliana (Shane Foley) and Joan of Arc (Ryan Moore) feature among the 20 runners in the Big Picture Communications Maiden, while the Aidan Obrien trained Horoscope (Ryan Moore) is among the 20 runners in the Royal Lytham at Irish Emerald Stud Maiden.
