Our final meeting of the August Festival takes place Friday evening, 27th of August, featuring three Group 3 contests in the Manguard Plus Flame of Tara Stakes, the Snow Fairy Stakes, the Heider Family Stables Round Tower Stakes and the Paddy Power Irish Cambridgeshire Premier Handicap is always a highly competitive race. (SOLD OUT)
The Curragh August Festival of Racing kicked off Sunday the 8th of August with a cracking renewal of the Group 1 Keeneland Phoenix Stakes. Ebro River (IRE) prevailed in a 4-way finish under Shane Foley for Al Shaqab Racing and trainer, Hugo Palmer.
Friday 13th proved lucky for those in attendance with the Comer Group International Irish St. Leger Trial Stakes serving up a great finish with last year's Melbourne Cup winner Twilight Payment defeating last year's Group 1 Prix du Cadran winner, Princess Zoe. Twilight Payment is now on course to defend his crown at Flemington in November. The Group 3 Fitzdares Royal Whip Stakes was won in fine style by Earlswood (IRE), winner of the Gallinule Stakes here back in May and 4th in this year's Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby for his owner Glyn Davies.
On Saturday, 21st of August we celebrated the magnificent career of world-record breaking stallion, Galileo (IRE) who sadly passed away earlier this year. We saw two Group 2 races going to post, the Galileo Futurity Stakes, one of the leading Group 2 races for juvenile colts, which was won in style by Aidan O'Brien's unbeaten colt Point Lonsdale. We also ran a Group 2 race for fillies namely the Alpha Centauri Debutante Stakes. The 2020 renewal produced 4 subsequent Group 1 winning fillies and two 2021 Classic winners in Snowfall and Mother Earth and this was won by the very exciting filly Agartha.
The Curragh August Festival of Racing concludes on Friday the 27th of August with three Group 3 races and the Paddy Power Irish Cambridgeshire Premier Handicap.
