Thoroughbred Trail a Sell-Out Success Ahead of Irish Champions Weekend

All 400 places on the Curragh’s Thoroughbred Trail have been snapped up ahead of Irish Champions Weekend. The event, sponsored by Dublin Coach, will be one of the highlights of Irish Champions Weekend, giving racing fans a unique behind-the-scenes view of the Curragh’s famous training grounds and some of its best-known racing yards.

The trails take place during the morning, ahead of the day’s racing on Sunday 14th September, which will feature the Palmerstown House Estate Irish St. Leger.

Johnny Murtagh, Dessie Hughes, Michael Halford, John Oxx and Paul Deegan are some of the leading trainers taking part, while the renowned Irish National Stud, Kildangan Stud and the Racing Academy and Centre for Education (RACE) will also open their doors.

Curragh Racecourse General Manager Paul Hensey said: “There has been a great deal of interest from the outset since we launched the Thoroughbred Trail, including from many British and other overseas visitors. Added to the fact that our hospitality areas sold out some weeks ago it is a very positive signal for the success of Irish Champions Weekend. We have received great support for the Trail in particular from our sponsors Dublin Coach, in addition to Irish Thoroughbred Marketing and TRI Equestrian.”

The latest forecast is for temperatures of up to 20 degrees with no prospect of rain, so ticket holders will see the Curragh Training Grounds at their very best.

All proceeds from the Thoroughbred Trail will go to a number of horse racing charities.
