September 30, 2013

Over 600 people took part in the third annual Jog For Jockeys charity fundraiser yesterday (Sunday 29th September) at the Curragh Racecourse. All monies raised will be donated to the Irish Injured Jockeys Fund.

Barry Geraghty, who finished 9th overall, was the first jockey home in the 10km race. His weighroom colleague, Brian Hayes finished 4th in the 5km race and was the first jockey home over that distance.

Among the 600 runners were Jockeys Barry Geraghty, Bryan Cooper, Fran Berry, Gary Carroll, Tim Carroll, Ben Dalton, Niall ‘Slippers’ Madden, Patrick Mullins, Michael Fogarty, Brian Hayes, Katie Walsh, Mick Darcy, David Casey, Eddie O’Connell, Michael Fogarty, Adrian Heskin, Paddy Mangan, Connor King, Danny Mullins, Michael Hussey and Andrew McNamara as well as Trainers Richard Brabazon, Paul Deegan and Ross O’Sullivan.

One of the event organisers Joe Osborne ran both 10km and 5km races as did Patrick Malone from Turf Club.

Event Organiser, Audrey O’Dwyer, said: “We were delighted with the turn-out yesterday, it was a tremendous success and there was a great community spirit and atmosphere at the track. Hopefully we raised a lot of money for the Injured Jockeys Fund. I would like to thank everyone who got involved and took part. A special mention must go to all the volunteers who made the event possible – it was a real team effort.”

Dr Adrian McGoldrick, Turf Club Senior Medical Officer, commented: “There was a wonderful turn out and atmosphere at the Curragh. It’s a great cause and I was delighted to take part. A big thank you to Audrey O’Dwyer and Joe Osborne and all the volunteers who made it all happen. I’m looking forward to next year already.”
