Europe’s top 2 year olds target Irish Classics

Some of Europe’s top two year olds are amongst the first entries for both the Tattersalls Irish 1000 and 2000 Guineas which closed yesterday. The races are scheduled to take place on the 21st and 22nd May next year.

There are 114 entries in the Tattersalls Irish 2000 Guineas with 34 of them trained by Aidan O’Brien. They include Air Force Blue, Deauville and Washington DC. Trainer Jim Bolger has entered Herald The Dawn, Sanus Per Aquam, Smash Williams and Round Two, while there are 53 British trained entries including Shalaa, Ajaya, Buratino and Raucous. The John Hammond trained Fastnet Thunder is the sole French trained entry.

Ballydoyle, Great Page, Lumiere, Besharah and Illuminate are among the 92 entries in the Tattersalls Irish 1000 Guineas, together with the Dermot Weld trained Tanaza and Now or Never trained by Michael O’Callaghan, who are both likely to contest the Moyglare Stud Stakes next week.
Paul Hensey, Curragh Racecourse Manager commented:

“It is good to see such a strong line up of so many high class colts and fillies entered at this early stage and in particular to see a significant rise in British trained entries in the colt’s classic
The 2nd entry stage for both races close on 6th April 2016
