Irish Champions Weekend kicked off in style this weekend as both Leopardstown and the Curragh racecourses joined forces for the first time to stage the richest concentration of Flat racing ever seen in Ireland, with €3.7million in prize-money.
Over 24,000 racegoers enjoyed Ireland’s newest horseracing event across the two days. The style stakes were at an all-time high too as Los Angeles based Irish actress Victoria Smurfit jetted into town as the official Irish Champions Weekend Ambassador wearing a stunning black tailored Velvet trim suit and an Emerald green jersey dress both by Irish designer Louise Kennedy. Yvonne Keating (2014 Ambassador for Co. Kildare Failte) joined Victoria on Sunday at The Curragh and wore a stunning outfit from Catherine McCormack’s boutique in Kildare Village.
There was a combined weekend prize fund for the best dressed ladies worth over €25,000. Saturday’s style champion Liz Maher who wore a hand made hat she created herself and a Jaeger silver thread coat over black cigarette trousers, won a Louise Kennedy Personal Shopping experience to the value of €5,000 and a two night stay at the award winning Powerscourt Hotel worth €3,000, while Sunday’s winner Linda Morrison dressed in a stunning Shubette of London dress and matching Angela Hannigan bespoke hat will enjoy a luxury shopping spree at Kildare Village and a once-in-a-lifetime chance to entertain 20 people at the stunning Palmerstown House Estate.
