Bracelet wins Darley Irish Oaks
July 19, 2014
Bracelet, one of five representatives for Aidan O’Brien, won the Darley Irish Oaks at the Curragh today. Fresh from her success in the Ribblesdale at Royal Ascot, Bracelet once again showed her ability to battle as she stayed on strongly under Colm O’Donoghue to beat stable companion Tapestry, the mount of Aidan’s son Joseph, by a neck. There was a further neck back to Tapestry in third. O’Brien sent out the first, second and fourth as his 18-year-old daughter Ana brought home Beyond Brilliance in fourth. Bracelet was returned at odds of 10-1.
O’Brien also landed the Jebel Ali Racecourse and Stables Anglesey Stakes with Dick Wittington.
Sabrina Harty has her team in fine form and the Newbridge trainer was one of the stars of the show at the Curragh this afternoon when she landed a big double. Ansgar made all the running under Pat Smullen to win the Michael Murphy Home Furnishings Minstrel Stakes to initiate the double – the Group 3 victory one of the biggest of Harty’s career with the 8-1 shot batting away the challenge of 6-4 favourite Darwin. That victory alone would have been enough to make Harty’s day but she wasn’t finished and another front-running performance made it a double on the day: Rory Cleary making all on Breathe Easy to win the Kilsaran 50th Anniversary Handicap. Well backed at 7-2, the four-year-old was winning the third race of his career
