May 4, 2017

Actress Aoibhin Garrihy and 2fm broadcaster Eoghan McDermott have today (Wednesday, 3rd May), been revealed as this year’s celebrity judges on the expert panel who will choose the Killashee Irish Tatler Style Icons at The Curragh on day two of the Tattersalls Irish Guineas Festival on Sunday, 28th May.

The announcement was made at the launch of the summer season of classic racing at Killashee Hotel MC’d by former jockey and broadcaster Tracy Piggott.  Following on from a q & a session with champion trainer and jockey Aidan O’Brien and Pat Smullen, Aoibhin Garrihy and Eoghan McDermott were revealed to be this year’s celebrity guest judges.

Garrihy and McDermott will be joined by Ciara McElligott of Killashee Hotel and publishing entrepreneur Norah Casey as they search for the ultimate iconic looks from the race day punters at this year’s Guineas festival.

Guests including Irish Tatler Editor Shauna O’Halloran, horse racing trainer Aidan O’Brien, champion jockey Pat Smullen, top model Teo Sutra, broadcaster Tracy Piggott, stylists Sonja Mohlich and Irene O’Brien and Karolynn MacHale of Aria Naas sipped on cocktails and prosecco enjoying sumptuous canapés in the Original House in Killashee Hotel.  Guests were also treated to a display of stylish racing day looks from local Naas boutiques Aria, Jingles Hat Hire and Richie Whelan’s Menswear.

With race days regularly restricted to prizes for best-dressed ladies, this competition holds categories for both women and men.  Men will be encouraged to rise to the occasion showing their stylish personality through their race day attire in the hopes of being named the Killashee Irish Tatler Man Style Icon.

Aoibhin Garrihy commented, “I am delighted to team up with Killashee Hotel and Irish Tatler to judge the Style Icon Competition at The Curragh.  I’m a huge fan of the races and generally the style at the Curragh is nothing short of a feast for the eyes!  A classic elegance peppered with contemporary edge catches my eye and I will certainly be on the look out for something unique to take me by surprise! ”

Ciara McElligott, Director of Tetrarch Capital, owners of Killashee Hotel said, “We are delighted to once again sponsor the Style Icon competition.  Killashee always endeavours to support local activities and businesses and we have had a very strong relationship with horseracing and The Curragh since the hotel was founded.   Many of our guests are avid race goers and choose Killashee as the perfect spot to stay and dine in while attending the races.  I’ll be searching for entrants who are truly creative in their own personal style setting themselves apart from the crowd and reflecting the iconic personality of the hotel.”

Norah Casey of Harmonia Publications commented, “This is a great partnership for Irish Tatler, Ireland’s original style bible and the celebration of classic fashion at this landmark racing festival. Over the years we have built on the huge success of this great tradition of merging style with one of Ireland’s favourite pursuits. The Style Icon is evocative of a time when men and women dressed in their finery for the exhilaration of day at the races and that sense of occasion is enhanced by the excitement of the judging and the announcement of our annual Style Icon ambassadors on the day.”

Winners of the Killashee Irish Tatler Style Icon (female) will receive a fantastic prize of a two night stay for two at the magnificent Killashee Hotel including breakfast, champagne afternoon tea, dinner, treatments in the award winning Killashee spa as well as a shopping spree worth €1,500!
