Corporate Social Responsibility
The Curragh Racecourse recognises the importance of monitoring the performance of the racecourse and training grounds relating to environment, employee and social and community issues and have policies and procedures to enable them to do so.
The racecourse operates a Health, Safety and Environmental Policy that sets out the responsibilities of the Curragh Committee, management and employees in relation to all health and safety and environmental matters. Specially trained employees have been given responsibility for communicating specific areas of the policy.
Recycling processes are in place for the separation and recycling of cardboard and paper, glass, ink cartridges, fluorescent tubes and waste oil.
The recruitment and retention of the highest calibre employees is of the utmost importance. Policies and procedures, including details on the employee appraisal process, are provided to all employees. The Group is committed to a policy of recruitment and promotion on the basis of aptitude and ability without discrimination of any kind. All employees and potential employees will be regarded equally and given equal opportunities regardless of their age, gender, race, colour, sexual orientation, religion or belief, ethnic origin, nationality, marital status or disability.
Social and community issues
The Curragh Racecourse recognises that gambling is closely associated with horseracing and is a popular raceday activity and has taken steps to encourage responsible gambling
The Curragh Racecourse recognises that the consumption of alcohol is also associated with a day at the races and has taken steps to encourage responsible drinking.
The Curragh supports national and local charities on an ongoing basis. The Curragh appoints a national charity of choice each year as the official charity partner of Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby Festival and this year it will be Irish Autism Action.
The Curragh Racecourse support a number of local community initiatives including:
- Support of local organizations and clubs through donations and contributions
- Support of fund raising initiatives for charities, clubs and organizations
- Assist charities, clubs and organizations to maximise their potential to fund raise on race days.
- The Curragh will support work placement initiative with local schools and colleges
- The Curragh organises Horse Racing education days targeting local primary school children each year
